In 1959 the recently relocated Los Angeles Dodgers completed the regular season with a record of 88-68 which earned them the National League pennant a full two games ahead of the runner-up Milwaukee Braves. Under sixth-year skipper Walter Alston the Dodgers were led in the offensive fireworks department by five different players with 18 or more home runs: Gil Hodges 25; Duke Snider 23; Charlie Neal and Wally Moon both with 19; and Don Demeter 18. On the hill the Blue Crew was led by 22-year-old right-hander Don Drysdale who compiled a record of 17-13 with a league-leading 242 strikeouts. Lefthander Johnny Podres was second on the team with 14 wins. In the Fall Classic the Dodgers outlasted the A.L. Champion Chicago White Sox four games to two. Dodgers' reliever Larry Sherry after racking up two decisions and a 0.71 ERA against the White Sox was named the World Series MVP.
Presented here is the ring awarded to Walter Alston for guiding the Dodgers to their third World Championship in 1959. The 14k white gold ring includes a round brilliant-cut diamond (.85 carat) that commands the face which is set in a blue stone and ringed by the words "Los Angeles World Champions." The left shank features ball and bats imagery with his name ("Walt Alston") engraved across the sweet spot. The right shank celebrates the victory with a representation of the L.A. City Hall building the Dodgers' logo and the year "1959." The interior band is stamped "Balfour 14K" and measures to size 10 ¾. The ring remains in near perfect original condition and comes with its original Balfour presentation box. The ultimate memento from Alston's second of four World Series titles with the Dodgers.
