June 12 1939 was a momentous day for baseball. The Baseball Hall of Fame would open for the first time amidst all the pomp and pageantry you would expect on such a momentous occasion. As of that date including the 1939 class only 26 men in the 100 year history of the game had been elected for enshrinement from 1936 to 1939. In 1939 11 of the members were still living: Babe Ruth Ty Cobb Tris Speaker Napoleon Lajoie Walter Johnson Cy Young Connie Mack Eddie Collins George Sisler Honus Wagner and G. C. Alexander all of whom attended the ceremonies. This remarkable original 1939 First Day Cover boasts the signatures of arguably the greatest player of all-time Ty Cobb in flawless vintage green fountain pen and graded a MINT 9 by PSA/DNA. This envelope comes with four 3 cent commemorative baseball stamps on the front with a postmark reading “Cooperstown NY - Jun 12 9AM 1939”. A spectacular Ty Cobb autographed First Day Cover encapsulated by PSA/DNA with a MINT 9 auto. grade.
