Hall of Famer Bobby Mitchell is a football legend from his on the field exploits, first as a Cleveland Brown, then later as a Washington Redskin. Mr. Mitchell became the Redskins first African-American star (Washington was the last NFL team to integrate, in 1962). Mitchell had the skill, class and persona to handle that responsibility, He also was a prominent sports civil rights figure, as pictured standing behind Muhammad Ali and with other noted black athletes in the iconic "1967 Cleveland Summit" photo.

Presented here are three signed football cards of Mitchell, inked in bold ballpoint and authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.

Provenance: Our consignor collected sports autographs in the late 1960’s through the mid-1970’s while living in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Along with getting autographs at Cincinnati Bengals training camp, Cincinnati Royals NBA games, Cincinnati Reds games and opponents Cincinnati team hotels, he was active mailing to players during these years, including their sports cards, magazine photos and index cards to be signed and returned in stamped self-addressed envelopes. While he quit collecting in the mid-1970's, he always kept his collection nearby, although sometimes packed away for long periods of time. He recently "rediscovered" his collection, and ultimately decided it was time to give his autographed treasures a second life.
