The late, great Tony Gwynn was a member of baseball’s exclusive “3,000 Hit Club†but he also registered a total of 1,138 runs batted in during his prolific, 20-year career with the San Diego Padres. One of his milestone RBI (No. 626), which tied him for the Padres’ all-time lead with Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, occurred on July 26, 1993, against the Chicago Cubs. In the game, which was won by the Cubs, 9-6, Gwynn’s team-record-tying RBI came by way of a solo home run off Cubs’ southpaw Paul Assenmacher in the seventh inning. This lot includes the official National League (White) baseball that Gwynn hit for the record-tying RBI. The game-used ball includes a special callout in black ink that reads: “HR off Chi Assenmacher to tie Winfield in all time RBI’s.â€Â

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens.
