Sweet-swinging Tony Gwynn recorded yet another impressive month’s worth of work in August of 1993 after which he was named the recipient of the National League’s prestigious “Player of the Month†award. He opened the month batting a strong .332 and closed it a month later with an even stronger .352 batting average. This lot includes the impressive award which consists of specially beveled crystal in a diamond-like shape that sits atop a dark green marble base. The official National League logo is embossed in gold on the front of the crystal, while a gold plaque rests on the award’s marble base that reads: “TONY GWYNN, San Diego Padres, Player of the Month, August, 1993.†The overall piece, which measures 10†wide by 9.5†high, weighs six pounds.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens.
