ADDENDUM: UPON FURTHER REVIEW, THIS IS NOT THE ACTUAL BASEBALL THAT TONY GWYNN HIT FOR CAREER HIT NO. 2,000; RATHER, THE BALL MOST LIKELY CAME FROM THE UMPIRE CREW WHO WORKED THAT AUG. 6, 1993 GAME. MINIMUM BID HAS BEEN LOWERED ACCORDINGLY.

The late, great Tony Gwynn was a member of baseball’s exclusive "3,000 Hit Club" and registered a total of 3,141 hits during his prolific, 20-year career with the San Diego Padres. One of his milestone hits (No. 2.000) occurred on August 6, 1993, against left-hander Bruce Ruffin of the Colorado Rockies during the 2nd game of a double-header in San Diego. The milestone hit took place in the sixth inning of a game won by the Padres, 6-2. Gwynn went 2-for-5 in the game with one RBI. Apparently, the umpire crew from that game decided to honor Gwynn by taking one of the homeplate umpire's official ONL (White) baseballs from his bag and adding five special inscriptions (one from each member) with a special call-out that reads: "To: Tony Gwynn, Congratulations on 2000 Hits 8/6/93 N.L. Umpire Crew." To reiterate, this is not the actual ball Mr. Padre hit for his 2,000the career knock. The ball is mostly snow white and shows little to no game use. It does have a brownish grease stain on one panel.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
