This lot presents a wonderful game-worn and autographed road jersey from the extraordinary career and life of Tony Gwynn arguably one of the most popular National League stars of the modern era and certainly one of the finest hitters the game has ever known. With his eight batting titles and a boatload of National League and major league records over his 20 seasons the lefty-swinging Gwynn was a throwback to the time when some of the greatest stars would spend their entire career with a single team. This signed gray button-down 1998 San Diego Padres road jersey from the Padres' National League Pennant winning season features Gwynns signature in silver ink across the 1 on the back of his No. 19 jersey. Gwynn wore this jersey on July 31 1998 against the Expos as he logged career hits numbers 2895 and 2896 and marched toward the inevitable 3000 milestone that he would reach a little over a year later. The jersey features SAN DIEGO across the front and Gwynns No. 19 on the back in navy blue-and-white on orange tackle twill. GWYNN appears across the back of the jersey in navy blue tackle twill. The front tail of the jersey features a RUSSELL ATHLETIC manufacturers tag with size 50 and #2895 and 2896 and the date 8-1-98 written in blue marker directly on the Russell label. The left sleeve of the jersey features the embroidered San Diego Padres logo patch while the right sleeve features a stitched navy blue Russell logo. Jersey shows game use and is problem-free and without visible alteration or repair of any description. This is an important artifact from one of the most beloved figures in Major League Baseball in the modern era.

Comes with an LOA from the Family of Tony Gwynn.
