From legendary St. Louis Cardinals coach George Kissell who was signed as an infielder in 1940 by Branch Rickey and spent 68 years with the Cardinals organization comes three wonderful jerseys from the 1970s and 1980s. Each were likely worn during Spring Training when Kissell was active coaching and mentoring young players.

By 1946 after three seasons in the military during World War II Kissell had become a playing manager for the Lawrence Millionaires of the Class B New England League. Kissell managed in the Cardinal farm system through 1957 scouted for them from 19581962 then returned to the field as a minor league manager from 19631967. In 1968 he spent his first season as a Cardinals roving instructor at the big league level where his efforts led to the nickname of "the Professor" and his influence is generally regarded as being a major basis for what came to be known as the "Cardinal Way." He coached at the big league level until 1975 and moved on to more focused roles at Spring Training and winter instructional camps. He mentored a number of major league players and managers along the way including Sparky Anderson Joe Torre and Tony LaRussa. In 2005 the Cardinals named their spring training clubhouse in Jupiter Fla. after him. George Kissell was still serving as the teams senior field coordinator for player development in 2008 when he died at the age of 88.

On the right front inside tail of the 1974 home jersey is the "Rawlings" manufacturer's tag with attached flag tag "SET 1 #8P 1974." Across the front is the official "Cardinals on a bat" logo and "Cardinals" in script embroidered in the elegant red navy and gold chenille. On back is first and last name George Kissell stacked in red-on-navy tackle twill with obvious evidence of a more conventional "Kissell" across the shoulders and a No. 3 having been removed. The jersey shows quite a bit of use and besides the name on back being restored appears to have no other alterations of any kind.

On the right front inside tail of the 1975 grey road jersey is the "Rawlings" manufacturer's tag with attached flag tag "SET 1 #8P 1975." Across the front is the official "Cardinals on a bat" logo and "Cardinals" in script embroidered in the elegant red navy and gold chenille and his No. 3 in red-on-black tackle twill. On back is first and last name George Kissell stacked in red-on-navy tackle twill. Jersey has red white and navy elastic knit stripes on the sleeves and collar and shows use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.

On the left front inside tail of the 1984 blue alternate jersey is the "Rawlings" manufacturer's tag with attached flag tag "SET 1 1984." Across the front is the official "Cardinals on a bat" logo and "Cardinals" in script embroidered in the red navy and gold chenille. Jersey has red white and navy elastic knit stripes on the sleeves and collar and shows use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
