Yogi Berra joined the Yankees after he came home from World War II. He was used sparingly in his first few seasons, but by 1949, when this photo was taken, Yogi was the Yankees’ starting backstop. With Berra behind the plate calling the shots, the Bronx Bombers won ten World Championships and Yogi a place in Cooperstown. The 24-year-old Berra is captured on the field before a 1949 game at Yankee Stadium. The catcher has a look of intensity as he follows through with the swing that slugged 20 homers that year. A superb image of the Yankees’ great at the start of his Hall of Fame career. The reverse of the photo features the International News Service credit stamp, along with numerous handwritten and typed notations. The photo has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a Type 1 Authentic.
