A fabulous action shot that captures the 8th inning action in the September 18, 1949, game against the Cubs in Wrigley. Robinson, who was leading the NL in batting at the time, hit a one-out single off Monk Dubiel, scoring a run to make the game 3-0, Dodgers. Gil Hodges hit another single to knock in a run and move Robinson over to third. This is the point in the action where this photo was taken. Robinson danced off third, challenging Dubiel to catch him off base. The daring Robinson pushed further and further down the line, distracting the Cubs pitcher. Carl Furillo walked to load the bases, and Robinson jogged home on Marv Rackley’s single to center. Jackie would finish the season with a league-leading .342 and 37 steals, earning him his only MVP Award. The Type 1 photo has been printed to its edge. The reverse of the photo has the Chicago Tribune credit sheet and a “Sep 29, 1949” date stamp. The photo has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a Type 1 Authentic.
