Ticket stub to the September 14 1923 World Heavyweight Championship Fight between Champion Jack Dempsey and challenger Luis Firpo held outdoors at the Polo Grounds in New York City before 80000 fans. Firpo struck early dropping Dempsey at the beginning of the first round and totally drive him out of the ring toward the end. Dempsey fell and cut his head on a reporter's typewriter but managed to survive with help from ringside writers to get back into the ring. The length of the count on this knock down has been a source of controversy ever since. After that scare Dempsey recuperated dropping Firpo two times in the second round knocking him out at the fifty-seven second mark of that round to retain the Championship. Front of ticket fairly clean with multiple creases and one small ink mark at lower right. Back has "Dempsey" and "Firpo" written in vintage black ink.
