Very nice unscored pair of 1955 and 1956 Negro American League East-West All-Star Game programs featuring players from the 4 teams still remaining in the League. The West squad was chosen from players on the Kansas City Monarchs and Memphis Red Sox while the East team came from the Birmingham Black Barons and Detroit Stars. Both feature interesting period ads centered toward the African-American community.
1) The July 31 1955 contest was held at Comiskey Park in Chicago and showcased legendary Hall of Fame pitcher Leroy "Satchel" Paige. Paige started for the victorious West and pitched 3 scorelss inngs of the 2-0 shutout. The program features an extensive article about Paige and his career. Buck O'Neill managed the West squad. Program in clean excellent condition.
2) The August 12 1956 contest was also held at White Sox Park in Chicago. This time the East downed the West 11-5 with future country and western music star Charlie Pride playing right field for the West team going 2 for 2 with an RBI in his 2 plate appearences. Program in fairly nice condition but does have a few small spots of bug damage on the front along the top edge.
