Michael Jordan has gone down as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, yet baseball was his first love. The NBA great famously paused his career to play minor league ball in 1994, and any photographs from his short-lived baseball period is highly prized. This Type 1 photo dates from four years earlier, when Jordan took batting practice at the old Comiskey Park on July 25, 1990. Only three Type 1 photos from this event have been authenticated by PSA, making this a true rarity among even the most advanced Jordan collectors. Jordan impressed the crown by belting two home runs, one reaching the upper deck of the old ballpark. This is the earliest image of Michael Jordan in a Chicago White Sox uniform. Holding a bat, Jordan flashes a wide grin, clearly pleased to be on a big league field. One of the photos taken on this day was later used on his 1991 “rookie card” by the Upper Deck company. The front of the image has been printed to its edge, and the reverse is stamped with the date “JUL 31 1990” and has several handwritten notations. The photograph measures 8.5” x 11” and has been encapsulated and graded as Type I by PSA.
