Sam Snead was one of the most accomplished golfers of all time. A native of Ashwood Virginia Snead won a record 82 PGA Tour events including seven majors. He never won the U.S. Open though he was the runner-up at the event four times. A U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II from 1942 to 44 Snead was the leading money winner on the PGA Tour three different years: 1938 1949 and 50. This lot features one of Sneads trusty clubs: a Dyna-Powered Wilson pitching wedge. The well-worn 36 Sam Snead staff model pitching wedge (circa 1960) boasts a Classic Golf Pride black rubber grip that sports a two-tone (red and yellow) design that includes six stars at the base of the handle. This is the very pitching wedge that Snead chose to donate to the special project on behalf of the Boys Club of Royal Oak Michigan. Prior to making the actual donation Snead had sent back the original solicitation letter from Boys Club of Royal Oak President Robert C. Eady (dated Dec. 2 1976) with a hand-written response at the bottom that reads: Hello Mr. Eady. Sorry I didnt get your letter sooner as I just returned from New Zealand on the 2nd. [Now] In Highland Beach Florida where I live in the winter. Now I cant send you the club until I return to Hot Springs [Vir.] in the spring. Say 1st of May. Sorry. Regards. Sam Snead.

Includes the aforementioned letter that Snead sent back to the Boys' Club of Royal Oak as well as a black-and-white 5" x 7" photo of Snead competing.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
