In 1983 Sam Jones got the news that he had been voted to the NBA Hall of Fame. The honor was not unexpected – the Celtics star was widely acknowledged as the greatest shooting guard of the 1960’s and he had been an important part of Boston’s eight consecutive NBA Championships. To mark the honor for being enshrined among the game’s greatest Jones was presented with this substantial trophy award. The 19½ inch tall trophy features a stylized basketball atop a stylized finial. Embossed on its base is “NAISMITH MEMORIAL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME ENSHRINEE.” “SAM JONES” and “CLASS OF 1984” is stamped on the sides of the base. The trophy shows light wear and scuffs from display. A rarely encountered Naismith trophy presented to the best shooting guard in Celtics history.
