Born Rocco Francis Marchegiano in Brockton Mass. Rocky Marciano held the World Heavyweight belt from September 23 1952 to April 27 1956. He defended his title six times. He remains the only boxing champion to hold the title and go untied and undefeated throughout his career finishing with a perfect 49-0 record. This amazing collection of 30 black & white original photographs mostly 8x10 or slightly smaller captioned wirephotos provides a wonderful timeline of Marciano's heyday in the 1950's and 1960's. Highlights include: a 1953 headshot close-up from his training gym; over a dozen fight action shots (1951-55) from bouts against Rex Layne Harry Matthews Jersey Joe Walcott Roland La Starza and Archie Moore; a classic pre-fight friendly exchange with Walcott; a post-fight nose fix after defeating Ezzard Charles; several intimate training sessions; and a half dozen showing Rocky's lighter side with family friends and fans. There is even a rare wire photo showing the wreckage from his fatal 1969 plane crash. Marciano was a true champion in every sense of the word. It's no wonder 'The Rock from Brockton' was the inspiration for Sylvester Stallone's wildly successful Rocky movie series. You won't find a better collection of original vintage Rocky Marciano photographs in the hobby. All photos vary from Excellent-Mint condition. They come in individual plastic cover sheets and have been placed in chronological order in a black spiral binder.
