1) 1977 First Edition copy of Jack Dempsey's book "Dempsey" signed in perfect 10/10 looking blue felt tip pen on the inside cover with the personal inscription "To my friend - Buddy Kohn - lots of luck - Jack Dempsey". (Buddy Kohn is the consignor's father.) The book itself is in great overall shape with a black dust cover having a few small creases light smudging from fingers and a couple of small tears. In 1950 the AP voted Dempsey the greatest fighter of the first half of the 20th century. Ring magazine ranks him the 10th best heavyweight of all-time.
2) 1967 Edition of Nat Fleischer's "Ring Boxing Encyclopedia and Record Book" signed in strong 8-9/10 blue ball point pen on the inside front cover with the personal inscription "Dear Craig Alan Kohn - I hope you enjoy this issue. - Best Wishes Nat Fleischer". (Craig Alan Kohn is the consignor's brother.) The book itself is in excellent shape overall (page 29/30 is creased) with a mostly blue dust cover that shows several creases and small tears around the edges. Fleischer founded The Ring magazine in 1922 and was chief publisher for 50 years until his death. His encyclopedia was first published in 1942. He also helped found the Boxing Writer's Association of America (BWAA).
3) 1959 First Edition copy of Rudy Goldstein's book "Third Man in the Ring" signed in beautiful 9/10 black ink on the inside front cover with the personal inscription "To Craig & David - "Keep Punching" - Rudy Goldstein". The book itself is in excellent overall shape but the dust cover is in relatively poor condition torn in two with creasing staining and some missing sections on the back. Goldstein was the "third man in the ring" for 39 world championship fights over a 21-year referee career. He is a member of both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
Note about consignor: David Kohn is the nephew of the late Marvin Kohn who served as Deputy Commissioner of Boxing in New York for 38 years (1951-1989). Marvin's list of associates and friends during his career included virtually the who's who of boxing from Ali Frazier Angelo Dundee and George Foreman to Jack Dempsey Gene Tunney Floyd Patterson and Marvin Hagler. When Kohn died in 1994 Ali wrote "I don't remember the first time I met Marvin Kohn. It seems I always knew him...He made everyone feel special. I'm sorry he's gone." Upon his passing the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) named an award after him: "The Marvin Kohn Good Guy Award" is given each year to a special contributor to the sport of boxing. Past winners include Marvin's close friends Foreman Gerry Cooney and LeRoy Neiman. Marvin gifted many items to family members and as was the case here had his boxing buddies personalize their autographs to his brother Buddy and nephews David and Craig.
