Hall of Fame catcher Rick Ferrell" ”who held the longevity record among American League backstops for more than 4 decades" ”suited up with the Red Sox from 1933-37. "Brother or no brother" said his younger sibling and teammate Wes Ferrell "[Rick] was a real classy receiver. You never saw him lunge for the ball; he never took a strike away from you. He'd get more strikes for a pitcher than anybody I ever saw because he made catching look easy."

The offered 1930's tie pin comes directly from the estate of the eight-time All-Star. A ½ inch tall enameled "red sock' is connected by a gold chain to a white enameled baseball on top of crossed bats. Both pieces feature bar-pin clasps on back. This is the only example of this style pin we have seen and based on the quality and rarity we assume it was designed exclusively for Red Sox players or high ranking team personnel. The item is in perfect as-issued condition. Includes LOA from the Ferrell family.
