This extraordinarily rare ticket granted access to Game 5 of the 1925 Colored World Series at Philadelphia's Baker Bowl. The epic matchup featured the Kansas City Monarchs Champions of the Negro National League and the Hilldale Club Eastern Colored Champions. These same clubs met in the first Colored World Series in 1924 in which the Monarchs were victorious. Hilldale would capture the title of World Champions in the 1925 series. The Hilldale and Kansas City teams featured a slew of black ball legends including Biz Mackey Judy Johnson Louis Santop Jose Mendez among the many stars of these great teams and was presided over by Andrew "Rube" Foster the founder of the Negro National League and the "Father of the Negro Leagues." The ticket is printed as follows: "Complimentary Ticket ….1925 Colored World Series Hilldale vs. Kansas City Good for admission to Grand Stand Issued to…..” and other fine print with certain particulars filled in by hand in period ink. Managed by Lloyd Thompson Hilldale won the best of 9 game series 5 games to 1.
The ticket shows some mild creasing soiling and some ink smudges but retains tremendous vintage character commensurate with its rarity and historical importance. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA PR1.
