The Polo Grounds was the name given to three different stadiums in Upper Manhattan New York City used by many professional teams in both baseball and American football from 1880 until 1963. Baseball teams that used the stadiums include the New York Metropolitans from 1880 until 1885 the New York Giants from 1883 until 1957 the New York Yankees from 1913 until 1922 and the New York Mets in 1962 and 1963. The NFL Giants also played games there from 1925 to 1955 as well as the AFL Titans/Jets from 1960-1963. While there were several stadiums referred to as the Polo Grounds the name was made famous by Polo Grounds III which was built in 1890 and had a completely open outfield with only an outer fence.
Offered is a beautifully refurbished free-standing figural stadium seat from that legendary ballpark. The left side of the metal framework features the Giants classic "NY" logo and the number "1" is stenciled in black along the backrest. Figural stadium seats (i.e. the aisle seats along each row) are obviously scarcer than their middle row counterparts. That fact combined with their attractive nature have made them quite desirable in the hobby today.
Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
