Did you know that only 23 Perfect Games have been tossed in Major League Baseball history? The first one Lee Richmonds gem that he pitched for the Worcester Ruby Legs against the Cleveland Blues on June 12 1880 just five days before Monte Ward of the Providence Grays repeated the feat against the Buffalo Bisons 1-0. A rare accomplishment indeed just 13 perfect games have been tossed in the past 35 years and only one has ever occurred in World Series play. The date was Oct. 8 1956 when New York Yankees right-hander Don Larsen teamed with battery mate Yogi Berra to blank the Brooklyn Dodgers 2-0 in Game 5 of the Fall Classic.
This lot features seven autographed baseballs the first of which is a limited-edition baseball (#73/156) thats been signed by 11 different pitchers who have thrown a Perfect Game including Larsen Sandy Koufax Mike Witt David Wells Kenny Roger David Cone Tom Browning Jim Bunning Randy Johnson Lem Barker and Dennis Martinez. They have each inscribed the dates of their respective Perfect Games next to their names. The balance of this lot comes via six single-signed baseballs each signed and inscribed via the date by a half dozen pitchers who have thrown Perfect Games including Mark Buehrle Roy Halliday Philip Humber Browning Witt and Martinez.
