Although born into poverty Brazilian soccer legend Pelé managed to turn things around relatively quickly by signing his first professional soccer contract at the age of 15 with the Santos FC. The following year he joined the Brazil National Football Team and the soccer world would never be the same. During his prolific international career he helped his country win three FIFA World Cups (1958 1962 and 1970) being the only player ever to do so and remains the all-time leading goal scorer for Brazil with 77 goals in 91 games.This lot features a pair of items autographed by the now 76-year-old Pelé: a signed 1958 Brazil World Cup replica jersey and a signed vintage era replica soccer ball. The dark blue short-sleeved V-neck cotton jersey includes a “CBD” embroidered patch over the left chest area as well as Pelé’s trademark uniform number “10” in gold tackle twill on the back. The acronym CBD stands for the “Confederação Brasileira de Desportos” (Brazilian Sport Confederation) predecessor of the Brazilian Football Confederation the governing body for soccer in Brazil. Pelé has signed the front of the jersey in black marker across the right chest: “Edson Arantes do Nascimento” (his full name). He has signed the accompanying brown vintage era soccer ball with a silver paint pen on one single panel. A pair of wonderful autographed display pieces honoring the greatest footballer of all time.Includes COAs from PSA/DNA for both the jersey (#AC78349) and soccer ball (#AC78379).
