The late great Tony Gwynn was affectionately referred to as "Mr. Padre" due to his 20 consecutive seasons of loyal outstanding service in San Diego. A first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2007 Gwynn finished his prolific MLB career with a .338 batting average and 3141 hits to his credit. Known as a slap hitter he flared out 2378 singles along the way to go with 543 doubles 85 triples and 135 round-trippers. With his eighth and final batting crown in 1997 Gwynn tied Honus Wagner the great Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop for the most in National League history. This lot includes a pair of autographed 8 by 10 photos showing Gwynn in his prime. The first photo signed in black fine-point marker captures Gwynn in the mid 90s holding the first six of his eventual eight National League batting title silver bats. The second photo signed in silver fine-point marker shows vintage Gwynn readying himself at the plate for the incoming pitch during a Padres home game. Both photos which come inside a black presentation folder from Upper Deck Authenticated pay tribute to a fan favorite and a superb major leaguer who was largely considered the best hitter of his generation.
