During the mid-1980’s horse-racing owner Eugene V. Klein was busy making his mark on the horse-racing world. This lot features a pair of championship awards that horses owned by Klein won at the now defunct HollywoodPark Racetrack in Inglewood California. The first award a piece of Electroplated Nickle Silver (EPNS) silverware shaped into a stunning serving tray (586 grams) measures 11” wide by four inches high and was awarded following the 1986 Silver Belles Handicap One Mile & One Eighth race to winner “Family Style.” The event which Family Style took on December 6 was won with a winning time of 1:50. Theserving tray is engraved with all of the race’s vital signs including the winning jockey Gary Stevens.
The second item is a beautifully crafted sterling silver bowl by Tiffany & Co. which is engraved on the inside following theHollywood Juvenile Championship (Grade II) on July 21 1984. The six furlongs race was won by “Saratoga Six” ridden by Angel Cordera Jr. with a winning time of 1:20 1/5. The trainer for both winning horses was D. Wayne Lucas another piece of vital information captured within the engraving. The sterling silver hallmarked bowl weighs 828 grams and measures nine inches wide by four inches tall by nine inches in diameter. Includes foamed-backed photo of the stretch run that 7/21/84 day at Hollywood Park.
