Now you can eat your Doritos and get an American History lesson in one fell swoop. Ozzie Smith was given this incredible "The Philadelphia Bowl" by the Philadelphia Phillies upon the occasion of Smith's final swing through National League cities in the summer of his final year on active duty in 1996. The Philadelphia Bowl was made exclusively for the Bailey Banks & Biddle Company by Wedgwood. It is a creamware bowl 12 inches in diameter decorated in Williamsburg Sepia. The drawings on the outside of the bowl were done by Alan Price to portray 18th century Philadelphia. Inside the bowl is a drawing taken from the historic painting "Congress Voting Independence" by Robert Pine. The bowl rests atop a 10-inch square graduated base (7-inch square at the top) of polished black wood affixed with a silver plaque that reads: Presented to Ozzie Smith The Wizard of Oz Thank you for all of the wonderful memories! August 1 1996" with an engraving of the Phillies Liberty Bell team logo alongside. We were just kidding about the Doritos; it ain't that kind of bowl. Bowl and pedestal appear to be in Nr-Mt and as-issued condition; a small brochure with information about the Wedgwood bowl is included.
