From Ozzie Smith's personal collection comes his 2001 Victor Award given for outstanding athletic achievements and presented at a lavish affair held in Las Vegas each year. A single award is presented for each sport. This 19-inch high figural trophy in gleaming gold plate is mounted on a substantial black marble base 5 1/2 inches in diameter. The gold-plated band that runs around the circumference of the base has the following engravings: Victor Award Ozzie Smith Walter Payton Sweetness Award Victor Hall of Fame Presented by the National Sports Media City of Hope 2001. The National Academy of Sports Editors bestows the Victor Award on athletes it determines are the country's most outstanding professional and amateur athletes and coaches. The Victor Awards benefit the world-renowned City of Hope Cancer Center in Los Angeles. This 2001 Award presents in Near-Mint condition save only for a repair that has been made to the figural athletes upraised hand holding the wreath something that is most readily noticed only when you are looking for it and doesn't dramatically hurt the overall presentation.
