Owen Churchill was an American sailor who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. That summer he was a crew member of the American boat Angelita which won the gold medal in the 8 metre class. Churchill became the primary patron and team captain of the United States Olympic Yachting team at both the 1932 (Los Angeles) and 1936 (Berlin) Olympic Games. This lot includes a pair of significant items. The first is a framed sterling silver silhouette of the schooner yacht America the 19th-century racing yacht and first winner of the America's Cup international sailing trophy. Framed and matted the one-time Churchill-owned item measures 25 wide by 21 high. The second piece to this lot features Churchills 1932 Olympic Yachting first-place diploma which measures 20 wide by 14 high. It features classic Greek designs with an art deco look. Diploma is in great condition.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
