After a dominating college career at the University of Cincinnati and winning a Gold Medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics, Oscar Robertson took his career pro. Joining the Cincinnati Royals for the 1960-61 season, The Big O averaged 30.1 points per game and was voted Rookie of the Year. The next year he became the first player ever to average a triple-double for an entire season, an achievement that wasn’t matched until 55 years later. Over his 14 years in the NBA, Robertson played in 12 All-Star Games, won the 1964 MVP Award, and led the league in assists six times. He was elected to the Naismith Hall of Fame in 1980 to go with his enshrinement in the College Basketball Hall of Fame and his spot on both the 35th and 50th NBA Anniversary Teams.

This lovely ring was presented to the great Oscar Robertson in recognition of his 14-year NBA career. The top of the piece features a red stone surrounded and surmounted by CZ's with “NBA NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION” in raised gold lettering. The left shank has the iconic NBA logo flanked by a pair of laurels, and the right shank has “O. ROBERTSON” engraved into a gold ribbon above a basketball with his number “1” and the years of his career, “1960-1974.” The ring, which we confirmed through a professional jeweler is make of 14K gold but since the internal stamp is undecipherable, comes in size 14 and weighs 32 grams. It shows some wear and scuffing but remains in fine condition. The unique ring awarded to Oscar Robertson in recognition of his great contributions to the NBA is the first example we have come across. Includes LOA from Oscar Robertson.

Oscar will donate a portion of his auction proceeds to the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma Center and LeBow Institute for Myeloma Therapeutics at Dana Farber. This renowned cancer treatment center “provides comprehensive care to patients with multiple myeloma, including promising new therapies through clinical trials rooted in an approach that brings laboratory discoveries quickly to the clinical setting (https://www.dana-farber.org/multiple-myeloma-program).
