Nolan Richardson is one of the NCAA’s all-time great coaches best known for leading the Arkansas Razorbacks to three Final Fours (1990 ’94 & ‘95) highlighted by the 1994 National Championship. In 22 seasons at Tulsa (1981-85) and Arkansas (1985-2002) his teams earned NCAA Tournament berths 20 times. He is the only coach ever to win an NCAA Title an NIT Title and a Junior College National Title. His Razorback squads played up-tempo with intense pressure defense a style appropriately branded "40 Minutes of Hell." Nolan Richardson was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014 for his masterful years as a head coach and leader of young men.

Along with John Thompson of Georgetown and perhaps John Chaney of Temple Nolan Richardson is arguably the greatest African-American coach in college basketball history. Since 1930 only three teams in NCAA history have won a National Title: the 1984 Hoyas (Thompson) Richardson's '94 Razorbacks and the 1998 Kentucky Wildcats coached by Tubby Smith. His legacy as a pioneer for African-American coaches everywhere remains vastly under-appreciated

Richardson grew up in El Paso TX under the watchful eye of his grandmother whom he and his two sisters called 'Ol Mama. His mother died early and his father battled alcoholism. Nolan played college basketball at Texas Western (1961-64) under the Minors' legendary coach Don Haskins; two years after Nolan graduated Haskins guided the NCAA's first ever all-black starting five [of "Glory Road" fame] to their ground-breaking 1966 National Title over Adolph Rupp's Kentucky Wildcats.

Throughout his Hall of Fame coaching career Richardson continued to break down racial barriers for future minority coaches. A fall-out with the University of Arkansas over perceived racial discrimination within the school's athletic department led to his departure from Fayetteville in 2002. Fluent in Spanish he coached the National Teams of Panama (2005-07) and Mexico (2007) while also coaching the Tulsa Shock of the WNBA (2002-11).

Featured here is Nolan Richardson’s Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Ring presented to him upon his 2014 induction. The 10-karat gold Jostens ring boasts a diamond at the center atop a small gold wreath and red stone backdrop encircled by the words "Basketball Hall of Fame." On one side is "Richardson" atop a figural engraving of two players contesting for the ball.  On the other shank is "2014" above a Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame shield logo. The inside of the band is stamped "10K" with the Jostens 'J' logo. The ring presents in beautiful Near-Mint condition and comes directly from Nolan Richardson himself. Incredible offering and a fitting one for SCP's inaugural Naismith auction.

Letter of Authenticity from Nolan Richardson.
