The New York Mets staged an eye-popping march all the way to the World Series this year and one of the batters who propelled them to greater heights during the playoffs was Daniel Murphy. The second baseman set Major League record with homers in six straight postseason games and earned National League Championship Series MVP honors. For the season Murphy hit .281 with 38 doubles 14 homers and 73 RBIs in 499 regular-season at-bats. Murphys teammate pitcher Zach Wheeler meanwhile is not known for his bat but this lot features a pair of game-used bats: one from Murphys 2014 season and one from Wheelers 2013 rookie campaign. Murphys 2014 bat was used by the burly second sacker on June 30th against the Braves. The handle was cracked off pitcher Anthony Varvaro in the eighth inning that day which still resulted in a single for Murphy. The 33.5 Daniel Murphy beige Louisville Slugger (model G243) shows great game use with bat rack and ball contact marks throughout the barrel as well as Mota grip stick residue that extends four inches below the nine inches of Lizard Skin tape on the handle. A bright sticker in Mets blue and orange with his uniform number 28 occupies the bat knob. Wheelers black Louisville Slugger (M356) is also cracked the result of an at-bat against Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee on August 26 2013 at Citi Field. The back of the barrel shows nice ball marks and blue smudges. The knob has a similar Mets-colored sticker with his uniform No. 45 called out. Wheeler put together two nice seasons to start his career before having to undergo Tommy John surgery in 2015. He is expected to join fellow flame-throwers Jacob deGrom Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz next year in perhaps the league's top starting rotations.
