One of the most publicized heavyweight championship fights of all time was the Rumble in the Jungle in Zaire Africa on October 30 1974 when reigning champion George Foreman lost the title to Muhammad Ali. Held at the 20th of May Stadium Kinshasa Zaire it pitted the undefeated Foreman against the challenger Ali himself a former heavyweight champion. Ali won by knockout putting Foreman down just before the end of the eighth round. Utilizing an unusual tactic he dubbed rope-a-dope Ali allowed Foreman to continually punch him on the arms and body while leaning against the ropes which ultimately tired Foreman out and allowed Ali to rally. It has been called arguably the greatest sporting event of the 20th century. This lot includes a beautifully framed collection of memorabilia celebrating the memorable fight including a dual-signed cover of the Oct. 26 1974 edition of Sports Illustrated that featured both fighters on the cover; an actual fight ticket to the bout; and a black-and-white 8 x 10 Associated Press wire photo taken during the bout showing Foreman landing a left to the rib cage of a grimacing Ali. The green matted frame which measures 30 wide by 17 high includes an engraved black plaque in the center that reads: Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman The Rumble in the Jungle October 30 1974 Kinshasa Zaire Original Ticket & AP Wire Photo.
