Presented here is a classic mid-late 1980's Seattle SuperSonics game-worn warm-up jacket from one of the more menacing figures in basketball lore Xavier McDaniel better known as the "X-Man." McDaniel began shaving his head and eyebrows in college at Wichita State to intimidate opponents and it became his preferred look on the court from that point on. He played 13 NBA seasons from 1985 to 1998 with five teams but is most remembered for his first six seasons in Seattle when he averaged more than 20 points per game en route to career marks of 15.6 ppg and 6.1 rebounds.
The striking short-sleeved snap-button jacket has a white body with a Sonic green upper torso and shoulders highlighted in yellow down the sleeves. It is topped with a distinctive white businessman collar. The rare style is heavily coveted by collectors. X-Man's No. "34" is heat-pressed in green on the front right chest opposite the Seattle team logo in green and yellow. "McDANIEL" is pressed in white with gold border across the green upper back. The shirt has side panels of green and yellow elastic and the appropriate seven white metal snaps down the front. The proper Medalist Sand-Knit dual tagging is found on the inside of the jacket indicating size 42 and "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the SEATTLE SUPERSONICS." His number "34" is hand-marked in black pen (perhaps by the team equip. manager) on one of the tag.
The all-original jacket displays even wear throughout and comes directly from the personal collection of Coby Karl (son of longtimeNBA coach George Karl). who played in the NBA from 2007-10. He receivedall items from his collection either straight from the player or throughhis father who began his Sonics tenure a year after McDaniel left Seattle.
LOA from Coby Karl.
