Chicago Bears’ Hall of Famer Walter Payton was considered the greatest running back in NFL history. At the time of his retirement in 1988 “Sweetness” had accumulated 16726 rushing yards the best career total ever. That mark stood until fellow Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith broke it in 2002. His incredible career included 10 seasons of tallying 1000 rushing yards or more between 1976 and 1986. This lot features a mid-1980’s Walter Payton game-issued and autographed Chicago Bears jersey. The dark blue mesh jersey includes Payton’s iconic uniform number “34” on the front back and on both sleeves via heat-pressed white numerals outlined in orange. Proper Wilson manufacturer’s tag [size 44] appears on the lower right front tail complete with washing instructions. A separate sewn-on dark blue mesh nameplate appears across the shoulders – “PAYTON” – in heat pressed white letters outlined in orange. Payton signed the jersey in blue marker and added his number “34” below the signature on the number “4” on the back of the jersey.
