The 1978 USC Trojans football team coached by John Robinson finished the regular season with an 11–1 record before going on to defeat the Michigan Wolverines 17–10 in the Rose Bowl. The team was ranked No. 1 in the final UPI Coaches Poll and declared national champions. On January 1 1979 the Trojans defeated Michigan 17-10 in the Rose Bowl to win top honors.
This lot features a size 10 Jostens 10K gold ring from that championship campaign that was awarded to the team’s statistician. Sporting the famed “USC” logo at the center of the face with small red stones covering each letter encircled by the words "National Champions." The ring includes the name “GUARDINO” on one shank along with a helmet and “Rose Bowl 79” while the other shank has 1978 Trojans and banners with four key victories and the score from each game (Michigan Notre Dame UCLA and Alabama). The inside band is engraved Jostens 10K.” The ring is essentially in as-issued and exhibits some wear.
