This FC Barcelona home jersey worn by Dutch legend Johan Cruyff fated to the mid-1970s (1973-75) at the beginning of his storied tenure with the famed Catalan club. Following a glorious decade in his homeland starring for Ajax, the other-worldly attacking midfielder/striker brought his "Total Football" mentality La Liga, leading Barça to its first Spanish league title in 14 years in his debut 1973/74 campaign. He won two straight Ballon d'Or awards as the world's best player in 1973 and 1974, including a magical run to the World Cup Final in '74 with Holland. A decade after his playing career with FCB ended in 1978, Cruyff returned as manager and guided Barça to four consecutive La Lifa titles (1991-94) and the European Cup in 1991/92.
Manufactured by MacGregor, the 100% cotton shirt is a long-sleeve model in Barcelona's Blaugrana scheme, featuring equal-width vertical blue and garnet stripes running the full body and sleeve length. The sleeve cuffs are finished in blue ribbed knit. The collar is a classic V-neck design with a matching blue trim band. The FC Barcelona club crest from the mid-70s period, featuring the red cross of Saint George and the Senyera stripes of Catalonia with "F.C.B." designation, is applied to the left chest as embroidered patch, the gold thread of the crest showing appropriate age-related patina and edge wear. The interior neck carries a MacGregor brand label reading "MacGregor / ALGODÓN 100%" — confirming the all-cotton construction.
Cruyff's famous number "9" appears on the reverse in clean white block lettering applied directly to the jersey fabric, presented without a nameplate in the style standard to European club football of the period. The jersey exhibits an appropriate level of match wear evidence with light soiling and fabric pilling, yet retains outstanding display quality after 50+ years of aging.
Authentication & Provenance
Includes letters from MEARS and former Brazilian footballer, Joel Camargo, a member of Brazil's 1970 World Cup champions squad who crossed paths with Cruyff during international and club competitions.
