This significant 1974 West Germany match worn jersey from the great Gerd Müller hails from the same year he led his beloved country to its second World Cup title. As a bonus, it holds the seven autographs — presumably fellow members of the West Germany World Cup-winning squad —now quite faded in red pen making them difficult to decipher.
Müller was one of the greatest goalscorers in football history, a clinical striker deadly around the six-yard box. In 68 international appearances from 1966 to 1974, he scored an incredibly efficient 62 goals for West Germany. From 1964 to 1979 with famed club Bayern Munich, his German legend grew to extraordinary heights as he tallied a mind-blowing 566 goals in 607 appearances (across all competitions), including a record 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga matches and 34 goals in 35 European Cup (UCL) matches. As it stands today, Müller is one of just ten players ever to have won the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Champions League and the Ballon d'Or.
The long-sleeved jersey comes in Deutscher Fußball-Bund's classic white home colorway, featuring contrasting black crew neck collar trim and matching black ribbed cuff treatments at the sleeves. Made by West German apparel brand, Erima, the construction is a smooth fine-weave cotton fabric in off-white/natural white tone typical of the era, with no external manufacturer branding on the exterior body. The Deutscher Fußball-Bund eagle badge is applied to the left chest as an embroidered patch — a circular design featuring the DFB eagle in black on white with "DEUTSCHER FUSSBALL BUND" text around the circumference.
The reverse has "13" in bold black tackle twill numerals, the same number Müller wore during the 1974 World Cup. West Germany used an alphabetical numbering system rather than traditional positional numbers during the tournament. Across the front body and sleeves, seven signatures applied in red marker are visible, though partially faded with age. The jersey shows genuine match wear with light soling and moderate fabric pilling.
Includes a letter of authenticity for the jersey from MEARS (to be posted shortly) along with a letter of provenance from Joel Camargo, a longtime Brazilian footballer who served as a trusted defender on the Brazil National team from 1964-70. The jersey was not submitted for autograph authentication due to the perceived difficulty in identifying such obscure signatures in their now faded condition. (PSA/DNA would most likely deem these autographs inconclusive.)
