The Kansas City Chiefs originally founded by Lamar Hunt in 1960 as the Dallas Texans were a charter member of the American Football League. In 1963 the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name. They became part of the NFL with the AFLNFL merger of 1970. From 1960 to 1969 the Chiefs were one of the most successful franchises in the AFL winning three league championships (1962 1966 and 1969) and compiling an all-time AFL record of 92505. In 1970 the Chiefs became the second AFL team (after the New York Jets) to defeat the NFL in an AFLNFL World Championship Game when they downed the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.
Offered here is a rare Kansas City Chiefs heavy wool sideline sweater. Sand-Knit size 48 manufacturers tag sewn in the rear collar. CHIEFS in white tackle twill outlined in yellow stitching is across the back. Number 9 appears on the left sleeve in the same style. The sweater is properly tagged with a 60s style Sand Knit tag. AFL game worn Kansas City Chiefs items are very hard to come by.
