By 1968 Mickey Mantle's glory days were behind him. Now a first baseman he hit only .237 and his wheels were gone. He was named to the All-Star team for the 16th year mostly as a token of his lifetime achievements. But Mantle could still give the ball a ride. In the sixth inning of a game played on June 11 1968 between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox Mantle blasted the offered baseball pitched by Joel Horlen into the stands for his 526th career home run. For the season he would slug a total of 18 homers in 435 at bats finishing the season and his career with a total of 536 round trippers. Today Mantle is #16 on the all-time home run list one of 25 players to exceed 500 home runs in his career and the switch hitter with the most homers.

The ball was recovered and preserved in the personal memorabilia collection of Mantles teammate friend and fellow Hall of Famer Whitey Ford. "Mickey Mantle's #526th Home Run June 11 1968" is inscribed across the sweet spot and south panel in period black felt tip marker. The offered baseball represents one of the highest numerical Mickey Mantle home run baseballs to have been offered publicly as Mantle would hit just ten more after #526. The ball itself exhibits evident game use including an apparent area of impact to one side panel. Documented home run baseballs of this type are seldom offered to the collecting public.

Includes a signed letter of provenance from Whitey Ford.
