The great Mickey Mantle is center stage in this unique collectible pairing that includes an ornately and intricately carved commemorative bat highlighting the historic 1961 season and the record 115 home runs swatted by Mantle and teammate Roger Maris as the Yankees rolled to 109 wins and what would turn out to be their second pennant in a string of five from 1960-64. The 34 1/2-inch bat has Mantle-Maris intricately carved into the barrel with letters that go all the way to the opposite side of the bat creating an intriguing presentation. A gold-painted band separates the two names with notations listing the HR totals of all members of the team plus the pitching staff names along with "1961 World Champion N.Y. Yankees Record 240 HR's Ralph Houk Mgr."Another metal piece where the center brand labeling would typically be notes "1961 - Record 115 HR's as Teammates." The actual manufacturer's center brand label appears at the back and features The Batsmith of Syracuse N.Y. That's all pretty cool but as was his style Mantle upped the stakes a bit adding a spectacular blue Sharpie signature on the bat handle. Included with the lot is one of the iconic items in the sports memorabilia hobby plentiful perhaps but still wildly coveted expensive and ultimately revered and treasured: the single-signed Mickey Mantle baseball in this instance an Official Bobby Brown AL ball with elegant Mantle ballpoint autograph on the sweet spot.
