Basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan attempted an ill-fated pursuit of playing professional baseball following his initial retirement from the NBA in 1993. Signing with the minor league Birmingham Barons Jordan’s heart mind and body were willing but his talent in hardball is no way resembled his talent in roundball. Some positives did materialize however. Jordan's popularity helped shatter the club's single-season attendance record (467867). He batted just .202 with three homers and 51 RBI but swiped 30 stolen bases as the club was covered by journalists from around the world. The Barons drew 985185 overall (home and road) and millions of other fans watched as the club played on national or regional television four times. Jordan played his final baseball game at home before a record crowd of 16247 on August 27 1994.
This lot features a black Chicago White Sox baseball cap signed by Jordan in silver across the top of the bill. The six-panel cap produced by Sports Specialties is adorned with Chicago’s “Sox” emblem embroidered in white on the front of the cap with “JORDAN 45” embroidered on the back making a reference to MJ’s uniform number with the Barons. The one-size-fits-all cap is in pristine condition.Autograph is pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Includes UDA Hologram (#BAF03871).
