Offered here is a Peru National Team home jersey from a May 1, 1978 friendly against Brazil worn by star Peruvian striker Teofilo Cubillas, known throughout world football as "El Nene" (The Baby).

The short-sleeve jersey is constructed in white wool-like material with a broad red diagonal sash running from the right shoulder to the lower left, a design unique to the Peruvian kit of the period. The turn-down collar is integrated into the jersey body with a two-button placket. The right chest displays the embroidered Peru national team crest in red featuring the national flag design above "PERU" lettering. The reverse carries faded black "10" numerals that cross the distinctive red sash, partially obscuring the number in a manner unique to Peru's kit design.

The jersey displays light to moderate wear and has aged quite well for a match garment nearly five decades old. Cubillas was one of the great stars of the 1970 World Cup and led Peru into the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, the year this jersey was worn. It comes from the Oscar Bernardi Collection with direct provenance from a jersey swap with the Brazilian central defender after the 1978 Brazil-Peru friendly.

The Oscar Bernardi Collection

This shirt comes from the personal collection of José Oscar Bernardi, better known as Oscar, who played center-back for the Brazil National Team from 1977 to 1986. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Oscar. Most jerseys in the collection were obtained directly through player swaps after competition. Others were acquired via trade with footballers in Oscar’s wide network of teammates and friends. At age 71, he still resides in Brazil and is ready for his collection to be appreciated by others in the hobby.
