Offered here is a wonderful game-worn home jersey from the great Maury Wills, perhaps the unlikeliest of Dodger immortals, who burst upon the baseball scene in 1959 amid the widespread skepticism of scouts and front office executives, only to anchor a Dodgers offense based on speed and timely hitting and a defense designed around timely fielding and Cooperstown-bound pitchers. He would win the National League's MVP Award in 1962, lead the National League in stolen bases in his first six consecutive full-time season - including a then-record 104 in that MVP campaign - and genuinely transform the modern game, elevating the stolen base to a place of prominence like no other point in the game's history. The Wills jersey is from the personal collection of the Los Angeles Dodgers' Hall of Fame manager Walt Alston, from the 1969 season when Wills returned to Los Angeles after brief forays to Pittsburgh and even Montreal, uniforms and locations that never seemed quite right for this iconic Dodger. The home jersey is simply sensational, with the famed "Dodgers" scripted across the front in blue felt above Will's No. 30 in red; his No. 30 is also on the back in blue felt. The famed Baseball 100th Anniversary embroidered patch appears on the left sleeve, with some light fraying of the white stitching at the border. The shirt is in superb condition, showing game use and light pilling around his No. 30 on the back, but essentially as-issued and problem free. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Family of Walter Alston.
