From 1978 to 1981 Mark Aguirre played outstanding basketball for DePaul University. He averaged 24.5 points over three seasons with the Blue Demons and in 1981 was The Sporting News College Player of the Year. He also was also the USBWA College Player of the Year and James Naismith Award winner in 1980 and a two-time member of The Sporting News' All-America first team. As a freshman in 19781979 he led the Demons to the Final Four where they lost to Indiana State led by future Basketball Hall of Famer Larry Bird.This lot features the game ball that was used when Aguirre scored his 2000 point for DePaul. The Spalding branded Top Flite 100 basketball is stamped DEPAUL UNIVERSITY and is christened in black marker with the following text: 2000 PTS. MARK AGUIRRE 2-7-81. Aquirre scored the momentous bucket on Saturday Feb. 7 1981 in a home game against Alabama-Birmingham. Thanks to Aguirres efforts the Blue Demons prevailed 77-66.
