As a sophomore small forward at DePaul University six-foot six-inch Mark Aguirre led the 1979-80 Blue Demons mens basketball team to a 26-2 record. Coming off a Final Four appearance the year before the team battled back to the NCAA tournament before losing in the second round. Through it all Aguirre averaged a team-leading 26.8 points per game and was named the Naismith College Player of the Year and the recipient of the Adolph F. Rupp Trophy given annually to the top player in NCAA Division I mens basketball. This lot features Aguirres Adolph F. Rupp Trophy which is administered every year by the Commonwealth Athletic Club of Kentucky a non-profit organization with a primary mission of honoring the legacy of the late great University of Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp. The recipient of the award is selected each year by an independent panel consisting of national sportswriters coaches and sports administrators.

Aguirre who went on to NBA fame with both the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons won the award in only its ninth year of existence sandwiched between fellow winners Larry Bird of Indiana State (1978-79) and Ralph Sampson of Virginia (1980-81). He was just the second sophomore to win the award after UCLAs Bill Walton who earned it in its original season of 1971-72. The impressive trophy which measures 18 tall by 10 wide and weighs nearly 25 pounds is presented each year at the site of the Final Four of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. Sporting a two-tiered wooden base the trophy was patterned after college footballs Heisman Trophy and features a 14-inch bronzed sculpture of a vintage basketball player putting up a jump shot. The bottom of the bronze sculpture reads: ADOLPH F. RUPP TROPHY Presented Annually by the Commonwealth Athletic Club to the Nations Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player. The lower tier of the trophys wooden base sports a specially engraved gold plaque that simply reads: MARK AGUIRRE DePaul University 1980. This is believed to be the first time the prestigious Adolph F. Rupp Trophy has ever come to auction.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from Mark Aguirre.
