The NBA sent All-Star squads to tour Japan in 1975 and 1976. These Tours included a half-dozen or so contests between East and West squads of touring American professionals at venues that included Tokyo and Osaka representing one of the earlier attempts to extend the global reach of the National Basketball Association. Red Auerbach coached the East squads for both of these tours and certainly must have been pleased to have several of his favorite sons in Tom Heinsohn Dave Cowens Don Nelson and John Havlicek as his teams centerpieces.

The complete rosters for the 1975 tour were:

East All-Stars - Tom Heinsohn BOS (Coach); Dave Bing DET; Bill Bradley NYK; Don Chaney BOS; Dave Cowens BOS; Calvin Murphy HOU; Don Nelson BOS; Rudy Tomjanovich HOU; Tom Van Arsdale ATL

West All-Stars - Bill Fitch CLE (Coach); Jim Brewer CLE; Jim Cleamons CLE; Gail Goodrich LAL; John Hummer CHI; Sam Lacey KCK; Geoff Petrie POR; Cazzie Russell LAL; Dick Van Arsdale PHO

Very little memorabilia exists from these important tours with this lot originating from the estate collection of Red Auerbach. This lot features three pieces representing the 1975 NBA All-Stars Basketball Tour trip: a fully embroidered patch; a four-color 68-page Tour of Japan program with headlines in English and body copy in Kanji (Japanese); and a black-and-white 8 x 10 framed photo showing the players and Auerbach posting during a stopover in Honolulu. A fine trio of very unique professional basketball artifacts from 40 years ago. Each of these pieces are the only examples we know to exist.

Includes a copy of a LOA from the Red Auerbach estate.
