In 1971 both Ali and Frazier had legitimate claims to the title of World Heavyweight Champion. An undefeated Ali had won the title from Sonny Liston in Miami Beach in 1964 and successfully defended his belt up until he had it stripped by boxing authorities for refusing induction into the armed forces in 1967. In Ali's absence the undefeated Frazier garnered two championship belts through devastating knockouts of Buster Mathis and Jimmy Ellis. With this groundwork came the "Fight of the Century" the seemingly hyperbolic designation for the March 8 1971 won by Frazier in a unanimous decision that handed Ali his first loss. This uncut sheet with four of the advertising posters from that event is nicely matted in yellow to contrast with the green poster paper. The 12-by-36-inch uncut sheet has black printing on the dark green poster; sheet appears in excellent condition jostled only by a crease through the third poster that is visible but does not detract markedly from the presentation. With the 4-inch yellow matting 2-inch black wood frame and plexiglass the overall dimensions expand to 20-by-44 inches. All elements appear to be in largely as-issued and problem-free condition.
