Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier were two of the greatest heavyweight champions in history and their three championship fights were all epic. This lot includes a pair of souvenir memorabilia items surrounding their inaugural championship bout which was held on March 8 1971 at New Yorks Madison Square Garden. Frazier the reigning champion earned a unanimous decision over Ali that night in an unforgettable 15-round thriller to hand Ali his first professional defeat. The items include a near-mint condition of the original 54-page Official Souvenir Program that included a Leroy Neiman painting of the two boxers gracing the cover. The original price of the program: $1.50. The second item is a blue-and-red adjustable cap with a special patch on the front that reads: FRAZIER-ALI MSG 1971 WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. A pair of memorable items from a most memorable boxing battle.
