The Keeneland Association Inc. is located in Lexington Kentucky and includes the Keeneland Racecourse a Thoroughbred horse racing facility and a sales complex. The racing side of Keeneland Keeneland Race Course has conducted live race meets every year in April and October since 1936. The 15-day spring meet is one of the richest in North America with 15graded stakes races featuring the Blue Grass Stakes a prep race for the Kentucky Derby. The 17-day fall meet features seventeen graded stakes races six of which are Grade One events used as Breeders' Cup preps. Keeneland takes pride in maintaining racing traditions as it was the last track in North America to broadcast race calls over its public-address system not doing so until 1997. Most of the racing scenes of the 2003 movie "Seabiscuit" in fact were shot at Keeneland in part because of the track's retro feel.

This lot features a collection of nine Keeneland Trophy Cups from the late 1980’s. Keeneland offers a Milestone Trophy Program that features several levels of recognition for owners whose horses win races and excel at the highest level of competition. Owners of horses that win graded stakes races receive a Keeneland Trophy Cup. Seven of the trophy cups offered here which all measure just under four inches tall and are made of sterling silver (hallmarked on bottom; weight 145-160 grams each). Each one is engraved on the front with the vital signs from a particular event. For example “Keeneland The Glencoe 1989 Fast Forward” or “Keeneland The Ashview 1986 Toss Your Curls 50th Anniversary.” The two remaining trophy cups within this lot are made of 14kt gold (hallmarked on bottom; weight 184g & 188g) and call out a pair of other winners: “Keeneland The Alcibiades 1988 Wonder’s Delight” and “Keeneland The Alcibiades 1989 Special Happening.”

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
