THE JACKIE ROBINSON FOUNDATION COLLECTION OF NEW YORK YANKEES GAME WORN “JACKIE ROBINSON DAY” #42 JERSEYS

SCP Auctions is proud to present a collection of 41 game-worn “Jackie Robinson Day” Major League Baseball jerseys from the New York Yankees. The No. 42 jerseys represent the MLB seasons from 2009 to 2014 and include a total of 35 past and present Yankees players who competed on Jackie Robinson Day (April 15) during any of those six different years. Jackie Robinson Day is a traditional event which occurs every year in MLB ballparks across North America to commemorate and honor the day Robinson made his major league debut: April 15, 1947. Initiated for the first time on April 15, 2004, Jackie Robinson Day is a celebration of Robinson's debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers (now the Los Angeles Dodgers) that ended almost 80 years of baseball segregation. In acknowledging Robinson’s historic and heroic role in breaking baseball’s color barrier, all players, coaches and managers on both teams, as well as the on-the-field umpires, wear No. 42 jerseys on April 15th. Robinson’s number was retired in 1997 by Major League Baseball on the 50th anniversary of his extraordinary feat.

All 41 jerseys were consigned to SCP Auctions by the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF), a national, not-for-profit, organization founded in 1973 by Rachel Robinson (Jackie’s widow) as a vehicle to perpetuate the memory of Jackie Robinson through the advancement of higher education among underserved populations. Presented here is a group of six game-worn New York Yankees home jerseys, donned by Chad Huffman, Austin Kearns, Marcus Thames, Ramiro Pena, Damaso Marte and Sergio Mitre as part of Major League Baseball’s honoring of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson in 2010 when every MLB player would wear Robinson’s No. 42 in commemorating his historic breaking of baseball’s infamous color barrier in April of 1947. The Yankees were one of two dozen teams playing on the actual anniversary date, April 15, 2010, beating the visiting Angels, 6-3, in front of 44,722 fans at Yankee Stadium. The jerseys have the Yankee pinstripes and Robinson’s No. 42 on the back with the Yankees’ interlocking “NY” logo on the left chest, all in navy blue tackle twill. On each jersey there is a tag with “Majestic Authentic Collection” on the front tail and an MLB authentication hologram that is affixed to the main Majestic tag; below that is a “2010” tag and a tag indicating the year and size of the jersey. There is a New York Yankees embroidered strip tag with each player’s uniform numbers as follows: Pena - Size 46, No. 19; Thames - Size 48 (No embroidered tag, but his No. 38 is handwritten on the Majestic tagging); Marte – Size 48, No. 43; Huffman - Size 48 (No embroidered tag, but his No. 22 is handwritten on the Majestic tagging); Kearns – Size 50, No. 26; and Mitre – Size 52, No. 45. The MLB logo on the back of the collar is embroidered in white, silver and navy blue stitching. The garments show varying degrees of game use and are problem-free and without visible alteration of any description.
