FAIR SGC 20 1887 Lone Jack Bob Caruthers from the extremely rare 19th Century tobacco issue that featured only members of the American Association Champion St. Louis Browns. "Parisian Bob" Caruthers had an incredible 9 year Major League career playing primarily for the St. Louis Browns and Brooklyn Bridegrooms of the American Association. Caruthers was one of the top pitchers in the Association notching 175 wins with a 2.62 ERA over his 6 AA seasons. A two time 40 game winner 5 times during his brief career he pitched for pennant winning teams. Among pitchers with 250 or more decisions his 218 wins versus just 99 losses places him 2nd behind only Hall of Famer Whitey Ford for the All-Time highest winning percentage in Major League Baseball history. Light photo as is common with the issue still provides outstanding facial detail with most of the printing visible. Some light creases but nothing damaging. Corners present about G-VG. Soiling present on the back. A very rare type card which most collectors probably have never seen in person featuring one of the top pitchers of his day.
